Tyler Island in Mix with Global Filmmakers
Bahamian filmmaker, Tyler Island, participated in another film workshop intended to develop film productions from the Caribbean, Africa, and the Pacific region. Over the past two years, Tyler has participated in EuroDoc in Martinique and DEENTAL-ACP in the Dominican Republic.
This May, we was again invited to DEENTAL-ACP, which was held in Ivory Coast.
“These programs are expanding the skills, connections, and resources of filmmakers, including Bahamian filmmakers,” said Clarence Rolle, Film Commissioner for The Bahamas. “We are looking forward to how Tyler will use this experience to enhance his storytelling, and bring even more powerful projects to the screen.”
DEENTAL-ACP is a program that was launched in 2020 for France’s National Center for Cinema and Animation (CNC). It has the financial cooperation of the European Union and support from the Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS). The name of the program, DEENTAL, means “together” in the Peul language of West Africa.
“A blessed experience for sure - to be hosted by the CNC-Deental Consortium,” Tyler said at the close of the 2024 gathering. “The film and television co-production conference was eye-opening. There are amazing opportunities to work with the African film and media market. And it’s always special to re-connect with fellow Caribbean film makers and make new international friends. I’m excited to continue producing content with our regions talents and share their stories with a global audience.”
DEENTAL functions as a mechanism by which projects originating in ACP countries can be awarded financial bonuses.
