Film Takes Deep Dive Into Dean’s Blue Hole
A Bahamas-connected film is quickly gathering worldwide attention. The Deepest Breath was filmed, in part, on location in Long Island at Dean’s Blue Hole. It tells the story of free divers, Stephen Keenan and Alessia Zecchini.
Through archive footage and interviews, the film follows Zecchini’s childhood in Italy, her discovery of a passion for free diving as a sport, and her rise as a top competitor and world record holder in free diving.
Bahamas Film Commissioner Clarence Rolle said the film’s British production company spent a week filming at Dean’s Blue Hole in the summer of 2021.
“It is remarkable to see what they have done with the film since then,” he said. “They have created a compelling story about two gifted free divers, and they have included Dean’s Blue Hole, which has become known around the world for its beauty and its spectacular diving.”
The Film Commissioner described the film as “exhilarating and emotionally moving.”
The Deepest Breath is currently number 5 in popular movies on Netflix in The Bahamas, number 9 in the United States, and number 4 in the United Kingdom. It was released on July 19, 2023.
